2004 Krupp Brothers Estates "Stagecoach Vineyard" Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
This wine is a shimmering, opaque and inky, black-garnet in color and displays dense, penetrating and brooding aromas of black cherry liqueur, rose petals, and loads of cassis accompanied by cedary oak, sage and licorice wrapped around a rock solid core of full-bodied, powerful and deliciously rich, ripe fruit flavors and mineral-laden ultra fine tannins with the texture of half-melted bittersweet chocolate that completely coats the palate in symphonic waves of opulent flavors. (Did I just say that? This wine may test the limits of my ability to convey what I taste into written language). The powerful fruit of the frontal assault marries perfectly with firm, polished yet sinewy tannins that follow through to a precise, persistent finish which (upon extended aeration) cascade across the palate revealing almost surreal layers of complexity and finesse. A spectacular example.
