100 Point Rating Guide

96-100 Extraordinary A wine of finesse, complexity, and expression. True to variety and region. Perfect balance of flavors with a long finish.
90-95 Excellent True to variety and region, with terrific complexity and balance. While not a wine for the ages, a superior example.
85-89 Good Meets your expectations, with sound flavors and balance. Might have limited complexity or be short on the palate. A sound wine.
80-84 Average Drinkable, might not have as much varietal character. Simple flavors, no flaws, but nothing special.
75-79 Below Average Might contain one flaw, simple straight-forward flavors, off-balance, unpleasant.
60-74 Undrinkable, Flawed Contains significant flaws. Unpleasant, not commercially acceptable.

2005 EPOS NAPA VALLEY RED

EPOS, a Latin word, from Greek, for an epic poem or song (i.e. Homer's Odyssey, Virgil's Anead, Vilmiki's Ramayana, et cetera).

Primarily Cabernet Sauvignon (around 70%, mostly from Stagecoach Vineyard in St. Helena), the remainder is Petit Verdot and Malbec (both obtained from Dominus). This highly collectible wine is the absolute cream of Napa Valley, and demands drinking and cellaring over the next 15-20 years. Only 1200 bottles were released to the public.

The charter for this wine stipulates that collectors and merchants yield a 50% discount to veterans, clergy, the blind, and selected others, and that the last case be donated to the Napa Valley Veterans Home in Yountville.

Please note: The bottler, Bonneau Wines, LLC, is dumping EPOS (and it's sibling wines 2005 HYDE RANCH CARNEROS Cabernet Sauvignon, 2005 Malbec Napa Valley) far below market value (and below futures pricing) to avoid paying consulting fees to the wine's creator Josh Pedroli and enologist Randle Johnson. If you're lucky enough to be holding one, you should know this wine is exceedingly valuable, particularly beyond the greater San Francisco Bay Area.

My magnum (one of only eighteen 1500mL bottles crafted) cost me considerably more than $76,000 and over 12 years of labor and intensive study to obtain.

That is the world record price for a new wine, and an all time high for a wine from American soil.

The record setting magnum of EPOS will be donated to NASA or a civilian space carrier for an upcoming landing on the planet Mars.

1Re: Record setting bottlings EPOS & H.R.C.

P.S. Both wines trading over $1000/bottle. Dec 2010. Try Craigslist NYC or SF, EBAY, or contact an experienced wine broker. Bon Chance!

2Record setting bottlings EPOS & H.R.C.

If you are looking for information on the record breakers:

2005 EPOS Napa Valley Red Wine
Here is that link:

http://www.vinquire.com/wines/detail/Bon...

If you are looking for the review of the

2005 Bonneau HYDE RANCH CABERNET
here is that link:

http://www.vinquire.com/wines/detail/Bon...

Both wines are very rare, and so may not show up in Vinquire's automated searches. If you are looking for either wine, I would suggest calling a wine broker.
