2005 Bogle Merlot California
Tasted in 2009 after approximately 1 year in a friends cellar.
Translucent ruby color. Clear, if somewhat subdued on the nose, which shows hints of red fruit and cedary-spice. On the palate this wine is clean, fruit forward, and lacks any faults. The finish is slighly short, but lingers for a few seconds.
Since it is fairly light-bodied wine without overt new oak flavors, it is flexible enough to serve with delicate foods like salmon without overpowering the food. For these instances it is recommended, and considering it rarely fetches more than $11, it is a relatively good bargain.
Please note: At seventy-five points I am being neither overly punitive, nor especially generous, but I think this is a good wine for begining wine enthusiasts to use as a benchmark for quality, and for it's price, should not disapoint anyone whether they understand the finer points of wine quality or not. This is a fair wine for short term cellaring and benefits slightly from 2-3 years of aging.
Hopefully, you find that helpful.
