Mar 15, 2010Daniel Dampt Chablis, 1998
A modest, entry level offering from the cellars of Daniel Dampt. Pale golden and aromatic with buttery honey, spice and mineral peeking out of luscious white fruit. This wine is probably quite mature now, if you have any hiding, now is as good a time to drink it as any.
Mar 15, 2010Domaine Robert Groffier Bonnes Mares Grand Cru, 2000
For a vintage that was, for the greater Burgundy region at least, less than the highest level, Groffier has managed to turn out some stellar wines. the 2000 Bonnes Mares is lip-smackingly delicious now, though will undoubtedly imporove for at least a dozen years or more. It should be purchased on site. Even novices should buy it, then wait until their tastes evolve to Grand Cru Burgundy, otrherwise itr will surely be missed. A Once in a Lifetime wine, even for those of us in the trade. Really, very special wine.
Mar 15, 2010Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle Musigny Les Hauts-Doix, 2000
Dense, dark, silky and concentrated. Soaring aromas of Indian spices with rich seductive notes of blood orange and red berry fruit. Very finely integrated, pure & fabulous. Very rare also.
Mar 15, 2010Casanuova Delle Cerbaie Brunello Di Montalcino, 1998
From a property named "Castle of the Cherrubrim." This is A+ Brunello. Really deep, powerful and crushing with tremendous velvety tannin enveloping seriously concentrated fresh fruit, spice and earth. One of Brunello's best producers in modern times.
Mar 15, 2010Caprili Brunello D Montalcino, 1998
Wow, really delicious with loads of chocolate, clove, and powerful oily spices mixed with subtle cherry fruit. Very fine tannin structure. Big, even with aeration.
Mar 15, 2010, 2000
100% Sangiovese from a vineyard situated about 400 meters above sea level outside the city of Rome. Ripe, rich and packed with intriguing garrigue meat and chocolate and silky red fruit.
Mar 15, 2010Luigi Baudana Langhe Rosso Lorenso, 2001
More than half Nebbiolo, balanced with Barbera, and Merlot. Rich meaty cherry, plum & smoky leather with a polished mid palate an persistent, but ripe, tannins. Might age nicely for 10-12 years, but hard to say for sure based on my experience with Barbera blends so far.
Mar 15, 2010grigio ipso pasini pinot volp zuc, 2001
Intense citrus with a lush round frame, delicate minerality lots of glycerin and a really long finish. 100% Pinot Grigio treated to 100% new French Oak wood, a luxury few producers would indulge. These results are good enough to justify more.
Mar 15, 2010arnei cascina luet prete roero val, 2000
A lovely white wine from Piedemont in Northern Italy, made from the Arneis grape. The wine is pale golden, soft and voluptuous with lots of white melon and a long, crisp, mineral drenched finish. Very, very good, my benchmark for Arneis.
Mar 15, 2010Baileyana Pinot Noir Edna Valley, 2000
Spartan but sporty. Spicy notes of currant and cherry on a well constructed frame of oak. Finishes with just a little more gush than expected. Nice job.
Mar 15, 2010Baileyana Chardonnay Firepeak Cuvee, 2001
Bigger and rounder than Baileyana's regular bottling this wine shows a marginally higher alcohol level and hints of minerality. Good, but "a little buxom for the dress."
Mar 15, 2010Baileyana Chardonnay Estate Bottled, 2000
Pale Golden. Sweet and creamy on the nose with hints of flowers. Very clean and round with tasteful shadings of oak.
Mar 15, 2010Baileyana Sauvignon Blanc, 2001
Brilliant, focussed and complex. Ripe and rich. Worth drinking and great with oysters.
Mar 15, 2010Tantara Pisoni Vineyard Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir, 2001
Hypnoticaly endowed with and almost black color, knock out complexity on the nose. The wine possesses some deep menthol/camphor, anise and earthy qualities which make it unique and bolster it's stature, whithout sacrificing it's balance. This wine has undeniable charms, despite it's somewhat unorthodox levels of ripeness and extraction. It merits enjoying over several hours and will improve readily with air. 144 cases made.
Mar 15, 2010Tantara Santa Maria Valley Bien Nacido Vineyard Pinot Noir, 2001
This medium ruby colored wine is redollent with spiced, cooked strawberry, fresh red currants, raspberries and spice. The wine is sleek and supple with a juicy, succulent delicacy and a slightly earth profile which is struggling a little under all that fruit.
Mar 15, 2010Tantara La Coline Pinot Noir, 2001
From a proprietary vineyard owned by Laticia, this medium ruby colored Pinot Noir suggests deep cherry, currant, & candied cranberry notes supported by vanilla and brown spices. Ripe, round, mouthfilling, and intense. This is a sleek, sophisticated- and if I dare say, sassy- wine with a long, vivid finish. Very tasty. Drink now through 2012-2015.
Mar 15, 2010Tantara Dierberg Vineyard Santa Maria Valley Chardonnay, 2001
My favorite of Tantara's excellent Chardonnay wines. Medium golden in color with citrus, tropical and flinty notes, but far more high toned with noticably less malolactic fatness, but more body, acid, and minerality. Great stuff.
Mar 15, 2010Tantara Talley Rincon Vineyard Arroyo Grande Chardonnay, 2001
Deep golden in color. Heady, toasted butterscotch, baked apple, citrus. Big Full bodied style. Round with lots of glycerin, finishes with zing and length. quite good.
Mar 15, 2010blanc blanc brut champagn cru grand mesnil moncuit pierr, 1995
Golden. Moderate effervesence, with multiple dimensions of mousse. Aromas a of bready pear and apricot intemixed with citrus, fresh flowers and wet stones. The palate is intense, full-bodied & detailed w/excellent length & persistence. Long and sinewy w/ loads of nuts and minerals shading the fabulous intensity. 25+ second finish. Excellent wine, this may be approaching late maturity.
Mar 15, 2010Ramey Chardonnay Hudson Vineyard, 2000
Rich fruit flavors, oozing minerality, sleek, concentrated and very lactic. Distinct notes of caramel and creme brulee.
Mar 15, 2010Ramey Chardonnay Russian River Valley, 2001
Medium gold. Intense, almost searing white fruit & gunflint aromas. Sleek& brilliant like a good Chassagne. Super-saturated with liquid minerals on the finish. Long and rich.
Mar 15, 2010Ramey Chardonnay Carneros, 2001
Pale golden. Delicate with apple, pear and brown spices. Sweet creamy and viscous. Very focused. Fisnishes with long brilliant fruit and subtle spice flavors that fan out on the finish.
Feb 21, 2010St. Supery Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, 2005
This wine has a nice ruby color and somewhat indistinct aromas of dark cherry-plum fruit. It is well balanced and and aproachable.
Feb 18, 2010Valentin Bianchi New Age White, 2008
Love this wine, I like sweeter and NOT dry wines. Found this at the hospice wine tasting this year and I am in love. Slight amount of bubbles makes this float across the palate. This is a great wine for a beginning wine drinker, you real winos would not like this.
Feb 13, 2010Chateau De Costis Cuvee Speciale Laurent Mazeau, 2007
GREAT DARK COLOR . POWERFULL FRUITY NOSE . WELL BALANCED SMOOTH BODY. MY BEST BUY IN AGES
