Feb 08, 2007Foxen - Foothills Reserve Cabernet Merlot, 2002
One of the best bordeaux blends I've ever tasted. I learned at the tasting that they added 15% cab sauv into the mix from the previous years of just cab franc and merlot. This one is 44% cab franc, 41% merlot, and 15% cab sauv. Very tasty, rich black fruits and solid texture.
Feb 08, 2007Fess Parker Ashley's Vineyard Chardonnay, 2005
I tasted this in the Fess Parker tasting room. For someone that's not into chards I thought this one was excellent. Nice and crisp, and not too vanilla/oaky/buttery.
Feb 08, 2007Castle Rock Columbia Valley Merlot, 2004
For the price, I thought this bottle was a decent. It was on the sweeter side, but with some nice peppery flavor it really stood up well.
Feb 08, 2007Chateau Souverain Merlot Sonoma, 2002
Smooth, slightly tart, hints of tobacco, I thought it was just ok for the price.
Feb 02, 2007Meridian Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004
On the nose, oak, vanilla, sweet. Some cherries, spice. Some charcoal/smoke something going on. But not too bad. Ok finish.
Feb 02, 2007Camelot Cabernet Sauvignon, 2001
Cherry, tobacco, and some je ne sais quoi.... funk, old shoes kinda thing going on. Some oak, showing some age. For a cheap cab 2001 vintage, this is already getting too old. Thin mouthfeel, ok finish. A bit tart/acidic, some spice. For 4.99, acceptable. If it was 7.99, i think too much. Newer vintages better??
Feb 01, 2007Redwood Creek Merlot, 2005
Very mild, easy to drink, no flaws or anything. Pretty good for the price, as I also like their better (non-redwood creek) Frei Brothers Merlot.
Jan 30, 2007Turning Leaf Merlot, 2004
Not a whole lot going on here, don't get that much taste out of this wine. I've had bottles for half the price that taste better.
An interesting side note ... I researched this wine on the winery's website prior to my review, just to make sure I had the name correct. Turns out, Turning Leaf doesn't even make a non-reserve of their merlot. I feel this is highly illegit and deceptive to label their ONLY merlot a "Reserve".
Jan 29, 2007Alice White Shiraz, 2005
Astoundingly bad. Honestly, we need new adjectives to describe something this horrible.
Outrageous cough syrup/grape juice flavor, coupled w/ salt and vinegar. So terrible that I can't even believe this wine is stocked.
Do yourself a favor and avoid it like the plague.
Jan 29, 2007Rosemount Shiraz Cabernet, 2004
Didnt really enjoy this one on the nose or the first sip. Slightly to acidic but did have some nice berry fruit to it. Tasted a little thin lacking depth of flavor. Id do it for less than 9 bucks.
Jan 29, 2007Steele Pinot Noir Carneros, 2004
This wine goes for around 20 bucks when i looked online after a night out. It was fruity lots of Cherry and a good amount of smoke. Smooth and sweet on the finish. Overall i would pay 20 bucks for it. Nuff said
Jan 29, 2007Pknt Cabernet Sauvignon, 2005
bitter, but if u can get over that not too bad. But still .... bad. Decent mouthfeel, some finish. Sucks, but 4.99 I think is reasonable.
Jan 29, 2007Gallo Of Sonoma Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, 2003
I guess for Sonoma Appellation, this is prbly a pretty good deal. Not the hugest fan of Gallo but for the money this is pretty tasty.
Jan 29, 2007Gallo Of Sonoma Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, 2003
I thought this wine was very pleasant to sip with my pan seared top sirloin. It seemed well balanced and solid, but not spectacular.
Jan 27, 2007Turning Leaf Merlot, 2004
Tannic and more dry than i thought it would be. Astringent. Stems and seeds. Tart, hardly any berry action which is surprsing considering mass market. 80, and that is prbly generous.
Jan 27, 2007Wild Horse Pinot Noir, 2005
This wine pairs perfectly with Salmon, which I just made! Light berry aroma with a silky smooth taste. Consume the entire bottle and you're sure to live up to the label's name! yeehaw! Cheers!
Jan 25, 2007Bv Coastal Pinot Noir, 2005
My first impression ... terrible. Then I thought about what I was drinking and lightened up a bit. I realized I a pinot novice, so I took some more sips and really tried to get what I could out of this wine.
It's kinda watery, slightly tart, and I think it dies out a little too early. During the finish though, I picked up some hints of salt/pepper, leading me to believe this wine may be a perfect match for one of my favorites, salt & pepper fried chicken wings.
Jan 25, 2007Black Swan Shiraz, 2005
Had some weird flavor going on, like woodsy/earthy ... but maybe it's just that shiraz aint my thang. But it did lack body, it was rather thin. It may go better with some food, as it can't really stand on its own. It's just not that tasty of a wine for pure sipping.
Jan 25, 2007Yellow Tail Shiraz, 2006
In a word, manipulated.
So much vanilla u would think mom was making cookies. Oaked. Super smooth and overripe, and all that in an 06!?
Cinnamon, choclate, spice, plums. Supple mouthfeel, coating. Dead finish. Overripe. Lots of vanilla, some oak.
Jan 24, 2007Bolla Chianti, 2004
Falls short. This wine has a decent amount of tannins, it's peppery, but very thin and empty tasting. Just not very pleasant all around.
Jan 24, 2007Bv Coastal Pinot Noir, 2005
Certainly not great but palatable. "Coastal" is usually the kiss of death but for a super cheap pinot it is passable.
Some finish, but too watery in general. Some cherries/grass. Dry.
Jan 23, 2007Black Swan Shiraz, 2005
Did this blind vs the Yellow tail.
Earth, cherry. Nice mouthfeel. More restrained than the yellow tail on the nose. Ok finish, at least there was some kick afterwards. Typical cheap manipulated shiraz though, wayyyy too much vanilla/oak flavors. But again smooth. More acidic/bite than the Yellow Tail which was welcome.
Jan 23, 2007Yellow Tail Shiraz, 2006
To start off, with my nose inside the glass I got a strong smell of alcohol (I know, it's wine). I just thought it was a little too much.
Once I took a few sips it seemed pretty well balanced. The one taste I could pull out was cherry. It wasn't too sweet, and it had a pretty good finish. I would buy this again, but I'd try to get it for slightly cheaper.
Jan 19, 2007Wilson Creek Almond Champagne, NV
This is wilson creeks almond champagne. If you like extracts of almond in your champagne, then this is not a 79 point wine, it is 100 point wine.
But if you're not a big fan of champagne that tastes like a Bartles and James product, then I would avoid this.
