Feb 26, 2007Honig Vineyard & Winery Sauvignon Blanc Reserve Napa Valley, 2006
Green and easy. Nice tart/acidic brightness, but lacking real nice finish. A sipper w/ a kick??
Feb 26, 2007Sawyer Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford, 2002
Big finish, strong solid effort. For an 02, pretty soft. But nice solid finish.
Feb 26, 2007Sawyer Cellars Meritage Red, 2002
Chocolate, smooth tannins. Supple mouthfeel, again, could stand for little extra spice/kick/punch on your tongue, but a very drinkable cab now.
Feb 26, 2007Sawyer Sauvinon Blanc, 2005
Restrained, vanilla and well balanced. Could use a bit more punch/structure but a nice sauv blanc.
Feb 26, 2007Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon Sacrashe Vineyard, 2003
A real winner. This was my overall tasting fave of the trip. Hall has two reserve cabs, this is their "tamer" of the two, the 2nd is a monster cab that needs a bit more time.
But this, Kathryn Hall Cab, is ready now and is fantastic. Solid, integrated tannins, smooth yet very well structured. Stand up performance, give it a swirl.
Feb 26, 2007Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon, 2003
Not that inspiring for the money, but still a solid cab. Tobacco and black fruits upfront, ok finish.
If you have the cash aim for Hall's reserve cabs, much much better.
Feb 26, 2007Hall Merlot Napa Valley, 2004
Smooth and upfront wine w/ smoke and oak on the nose, some kick/tannins in the finish. Not hugely structured.
Feb 26, 2007Kathryn Hall Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley, 2005
The grapefruit and lime aromas and taste really stand out. However, the finish left something to be desired, it wasn't so much refreshing as it was burning.
Feb 26, 2007Kathryn Hall Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley, 2005
High acidity, almost too much. Grapefruit/spice on finish.
Feb 26, 2007Honig Cabernet Sauvignon, 2004
Cherry and lots of vanilla. Almost tasted more like an Australian shiraz. Sweet and fruity. That said, it was very smooth and very easy to drink, just not my type of cab.
Feb 24, 2007Delicato Cabernet Sauvignon, 2005
This sounds bad ... but all i can say is "not horrible". For 5.99 this delivers something acceptable. Some salt/brine/olive action going on....
On a more positve note, not digusting over-oaked and fairly well balanced. Some length and some decent mouthfeel.
Not worth 10, but 6 is a good deal -

Pleasant aroma with a delightful taste of berries. Very smooth and distinguished. Highly recommended to be simply enjoyed by itself!! Cheers!
Feb 21, 2007Farnese Sangiovese, 2005
A pleasant unassuming wine that is perfect for a table wine. When you're in the mood for something that is pretty tame.
Not a lot going on but good for the money.
Feb 21, 2007Farnese Sangiovese, 2005
Thought this was pretty decent for the price. The nice aromas, lingering mouthfeel, and a hint of spice was pleasant.
Feb 20, 2007Wirra Scrubby Rise Sauvignon Blanc South Australia, 2000
Not a typical sauv blanc color, more golden like an oaked chard. And not your typical crispness that you'd expect from a sauv blanc.
That said, it's not bad for the price ($3). Really smooth, kinda oaky/vanilla. Just not a lot of your typical citris/tropical flavors.
Feb 19, 2007Rosemount Cabernet Merlot, 2004
Nice and smooth from the start. My first impression: raspberry yogurt. I guess that implies I was getting a heavy dose of vanilla, maybe over oaked.
Good amount of cherry and other black fruits. It was definitely pretty darn good for the price.
Feb 19, 2007Sawyer Cellars Meritage Red, 2002
I thought this was an excellent bordeaux blend. Well balanced tannins, got some strong boysenberry action. Very smooth yet nice structure and spice.
Feb 19, 2007Kathryn Hall Cabernet Sauvignon, 2003
Tasted this in the Hall tasting room. I wasn't found of this cab (their other cab reserves were much better, as you'd expect). It just didn't have that great of all around aromas and flavors. For the price it was listed at ($35) it was easy to pass this one up.
Feb 19, 2007Rosemount Cabernet Merlot, 2004
A little "grapey", i.e., tastes a bit like welches. So i guess it goes wo/ saying that it lacks harmonious balance and any structure.
That being said for 4 dollars, its drinkable. Some spice on the finish and definately better than most of the $4 swill at Traders.
Feb 18, 2007Honig Vineyard & Winery Sauvignon Blanc Reserve Napa Valley, 2006
Very smooth with a crazy crispy finish. The combination of citrus (grapefruit) and tropical flavors makes that crisp finish that is refreshing.
Outstanding for the price, and should be able to hold up to food with some savory and spice to it.
Feb 17, 2007Barefoot Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
I thought this wine was straight out terrible. I know it is geared toward bargain, but I would rather sip on 2 buck chuck for a few bucks less. Just not very good, not recommended.
Feb 16, 2007Toasted Head Chardonnay, nv
Surprisingly good. Served chilled, it was crisp and fruity, not dry. We enjoyed the suttle floral scents.
Feb 13, 2007Barefoot Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon
Thin and chalky. Not my fave but not horrible.
Bought it at Trader Joes and couldn't find a vintage on it?? Weird.
Feb 13, 2007Marques De Caceres Rose, 2005
Rose petals and spice on the nose and palette. If you're a fan or dry rose's -- then hit this big time.
