Jul 19, 2008Barefoot Pinot Grigio, 2007
This wine is an amazing value. It is crisp & tantalizing when it hits the tongue and makes you feel like you have green apples, kiwi, pears and white nectarines rolling across your taste buds. This brand is known for making very good inexpensive champagnes and it almost reminds me of a bit of bubbly. For a second you almost think you have something sparkling in your mouth but the tiny bubbles disappear almost instantly. If you want a refreshing wine that can compliment any simple poultry, fish or pork dish you will be beyond pleased with this wine.
Jul 17, 2008Rosenblum Vinters Cuvee Zinfandel
Promising on the nose with chocolate and a hint of tomato. Going in though it's sour time, no mid palette and quickly fades into that grape vanilla oak leaving you wonder if they didn't dazzle up some Charles Shaw...I'm so tired of that. :(
If the price range were any more I'd be pretty let down but this is just another one of those wines that just goes on the "it's another average day" list.
Jul 16, 2008Barreto Cellars Vinho Tinto - Red Table Wine, 2004
Strawberry jam with almond slivers on top. Add in some currants and cherries and a dab of tomato sauce. Light & smooth. Really interesting wine, I need to try it again without any other wines to influence it!
Jul 11, 2008Sea Smoke Southing Pinot Noir, 2002
This wine was purchased in a "futures" sale back in 2003, and it's been aging nicely until today.
The nose is seriously intoxicating, rich ripe fruits layered on top of a subtle oakiness. Perfectly sweet cherry, some cocoa, and a good amount of vapors.
The palate is amazing. Fairly rich and bold for a pinot, but I love it. Great structure, stickiness and multidimensional. The finish starts out with a load of spice, black pepper and more. But then it smooths out into silky soft, long finish.
Jul 08, 2008Bonny Doon Vin Gris De Cigare Rose Wine
- Tangerine, pretty dry.
- OK. Vin gris. Weird tartness on the finish.
- Fruity, strawberry nose. Light taste, watery, slightly sweet. More tart finish.
- Citrus, bright, effervescent
- Well Balanced.
- Violet & rose petals. Some carbon & graphite. Cab franc-y. Nice long spicy finish. Tart cherry and enjoyable.
Jul 08, 2008Tower Brook Chardonnay
- Buttered popcorn, anise, peach & pineapple. Very creamy & spicy.
- Neutral, no oak, dry no real fruit.
- Bland / ok.
- Very tannic, burns lips. Strong floral, robust flavor. Would go well with food, full.

Jul 08, 2008Silver Birch Sauvignon Blanc, 2005
Silver Birch World Wines Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough:
- Tart, pineapple.
- Muddled, mixed up.
- Spells like spiced meat, or BO. Lemony on the tongue, tart & minerally, tingles. Enjoyable overall. No finish really.
- Green, middle of road.
- Very bright, tropical and lime, smells sweaty and nutty. Tart pineapple finish.
- Chemically, epoxy. Some campfire ashes. A bit bland, no spice, just acid. Hated it.
Jul 08, 2008St. Hallett “Poacher’S Blend” Barossa Semillon Sauvignon Blanc
- Green grass, slight cat pee aroma. A tad sweet. Nutmeg & snicker doodles with lime leaves & lemongrass.
- Smooth, fruity-lime.
- Bright, nice. Best white.
- Tart nose, funky. Slightly sweet, easy to drink. Light, carbonated.
- Light citrus, green – nice finish. Front Semillon funk.
- Burning (nasal) lemon on the nose, tingly carbonation on the palate, Semillon seems to balance out the sharpness of the Sauv Blanc.
- Interesting blend – not my fave, but definitely funky.
Jul 08, 2008Sierra Vista Syrah Foothills, 2005
- Not a lot of depth. Tobacco, dusty cocoa, wet leaves. Bitter. On 2nd taste: Sweet fig, smooth smoke, dusty blackberry.
- Much lighter, not a lot of fruit. berry.
- Takes a detour from great – finishes off..
- Very musty and old. On the nose, smells like hot dogs & melted cheese. Nice flavor, clean finish, slightly tart on the tongue.
- Ruby, light alcohol, smooth finish (Rhone nose)
- Hot pastrami with melted Swiss cheese, spicy and dry on the palate. Hot. Quick finish, slightly watery.
- Spicy pomegranate, enjoyable. A bit soft, drink now. Integrated tannins.
Jul 08, 2008Sobon Estate Syrah Amador County, 2004
- Alcoholic, raisins, rose petals, bitter on the finish. Soft. Earthy spice but bitter aftertaste. On the 2nd taste after open for a while, much mellower, smooth fig with blue/black fruits. Earthy. MUST decant!
- Smoky, berry, cranberry/currant. Very smooth & warming. Deep, rich best if decanted.
- Nice nose, complex. A bit hot. Favorite red.
- Potpourri. Very strong dried flowers on the nose, glue, dried clay nose, cloves, vanilla. Mild finish.
- Hot nose (alcohol). Warm all the way down. Better with time. Light, fruit, tannin.
- Really like this syrah, the only flaw is that it’s slightly watery at times.
- Nice, smoky, chalky and all around nice. A bit tart on the close.

Jul 06, 2008Pb Hein, Trailblazer, Napa Valley, Syrah, 2005
Chewy smoky beef jerky, served on a leather plate with a touch of dark chocolate. Delicious dark berry & plum with juicy black cherries hiding out. A great find.
Jul 01, 2008Barton & Guestier Cabernet Sauvignon, 2006
A well rounded Cabernet, much softer and lighter then other selections. Notes of sour cherry and cedar with a mild nutmeg finish.
Of the "under ten dollar" varieties I've tried this is among my favorites. Any other recommendations would be appreciated.
Jun 23, 2008Two Mile Dry Creek Sangiovese, 2006
Tasted like the top class of Italian Sangiovese - really very Brunello like. Not much Oak, tasted just like great Sangiovese should - complex and multilayered. Long finish.
Jun 12, 2008Ceja Vineyards Vino De Casa White, 2006
A nice refreshing house white for the end of a hot day. Light golden in color, this wine shows tons of citrus (lime, grapefruit) and green apple with a mineral backbone riding on a tinge of eucalyptus leaves.
This zippy number is a great alternative to Sav Blanc. The Semillion makes it a creamy yet crisp white, with a luscious finish that goes on for miles.
Jun 10, 2008Sainte-Croix Viognier, 2005
- Yeasty butterscotch. Had a funky smell & taste. Yuck!

- Floral.
- Somewhat thin, lemon lime.
- Acetyl/acetone finish.
- Fruity, lemon-lime nose, tart on the tongue, rough, spicy finish. Not very pleasant.
Jun 10, 2008Cline Marsanne Rousanne Sonoma County, 2006
- Must floral aromas with a lot of citrus. Opened up after a few minutes.
- Sweet & floral. Quick finish, a bit watery. Tastes like a blend of Sauv Blanc and Viognier.
- Lemon, cumin, ground coriander, burn lemon. Very tart.
- Unsubtle, intense flavor, lime
- Slight grapefruit, a bit earthy
- Fruit forward, fizzy, buttery finish
- Very pleasant, strawberry sweet nose, rosewater, tastes less sweet than it smells. Nice clean finish.
Jun 10, 2008Chateau L'Ermitage, 2007
- Lemony crisp, light & refreshing. I’d buy this again. Slight pear essence, with tons of citrus and grapefruit. Great alternative to Sauv Blanc.
- Dry, like Sauv Blanc. Dry & nutty with pepper. Enjoyable.
- Much flatter and watery than “A” on the palate. Tart action but typical French thinness. Tastes like a California Sav Blanc.
- Minerally, dry, grapefruit.
- Grapefruit / citrus, fairly dry
- Light citrus fruit, dry finish. Excellent, yet indescribable
- Light, salty, watery, clean finish. Slight strawberry fruit on the nose.
Jun 10, 2008Gregory Graham Viognier, 2006
- Sweet tropical fruit. Nectarines and tropical floral nose. Sweet butterscotch. This wine was better when we re-tasted it at the end.
- Candied flowers. Overly sweet, not my style. Still, nice floral nose. Some kick on the finish.
- Floral (rose) on the nose. Reminds me of a sweet/”naked” chard. An ok finish, no one really liked it but me.
- Fruity, sweet nectar, floral, lychee.
- Slightly sweet, spicy on the finish.
- Sweet finish, applish fruit front, occasional spice on the palate.
- Sweet, slightly tart, smooth, oaky, soft. Not much personality. Very easy to drink.
Jun 10, 2008La Vieille Ferme Cotes Du Luberon Blanc, 2006

- Spicy nectarines.
- Tart, spicy.
- Spicy, French finish.
- Rotten eggs on nose, citrus, medium tartness.
Jun 08, 2008Stuart Cellars Tatria, 2002
Medium body with notes of minerals and earth. Not much finish -- "front loaded". Some licorice as well.
Jun 08, 2008Wilson Creek Estate Cabernet Sauvignon - New Release, 2004
Spice and leather on the nose. Rich, dense, and peppery. A little corky, some funk and feet and in here. Solid, built like a tank.
