While we love the 2007’s, we had no qualms about going back and picking off something from the fine 2005 vintage when the opportunity arose. Like the Von Simmern we spoke of in a prior issue, this is a great old estate with superb dirt that has found its way back after a period of mediocrity. There’s a distinctive soily underpinning to the apricot/lime fruit here in this Nahe site and it’s a bigger Riesling in the mouth as befits the appellation. A Spectator 92, this will last a decade with ease. Lovely Riesling.
From The Wine Spectator: "Broadly hewn, with a rich texture enfolding Key lime pie and vanilla custard flavors. Intense and concentrated, with a long, chalky finish. Still unevolved, so give this time to show its charms. Best from 2008 through 2022. 80 cases made." –BS
