1burgundy
I don't know jack about Burgundy, but I'd like to change that.
Where should I start?
I'd like to begin with reds in the $10 to $20 range, if possible. And I prefer heavier, more viscous stuff, which I know might be hard to come by with this kind of wine (since it'll most likely be Pinot, right?).

If you find burgundy in that price range that doesn't taste like a wet dog, I will be impressed.
Actually, I guess if you give up your quest for Pinot style burgundy, I think they make a few other red varietals in that region -- like gamay which maybe you could score for that much cash. But then ... it's probably not the style of burgundy you're thinking (or have read) about.
Maybe if captain caveman swings by he can answer. I would bet that you'd only be able to start drinking (cheap) burgundy pinot at the 30+ price range (if not even higher).

Try some of the Bourgone Rouge level wines from Domain Arlaud or Frederic Magnien or Michel Magnien. They're excellent and available in the bay area for between $25-$35. They're imported by North Berkeley Imports. If you have trouble finding them, you can hop in the car and drive to Sonoma Market, or call your favorite winebroker and save the gas. If you like those, we can talk about single vineyard cru wines later. If you don't, then Burgundy isn't your thing.
Hey what's up with the caffienator? Admittedly, sometimes I add a little cinnamon or vanilla to my coffee, but that post seems a little off topic. Sounds like a hell of a recipe for mulled wine though.
