About Vinquire

Vinquire is an online wine community providing the following features:

Wine Price Search

Vinquire's search engine is powerful, free, and always displays every search result regardless of site sponsors. We constantly scan thousands of retailers to find our users the best deals and most sought-after wines.

To search for a particular wine, simply enter all or part of a wine name into the search box and click "Search Wines". You do not need to enter any data in the other fields ( i.e., max price, vintage, etc., are all optional). The search results page will then display retailers selling the wine you entered, with prices and links to buy.

Optional search filters:

  • Vintage
Enter a year to limit wines returned to that vintage only. Leave this blank to see all vintages.
  • Price Range
Enter a minimum and/or maximum price to fine tune results to your budget, or leave empty to see all prices.
  • Type
Select "red", "white", "rosé", "sparkling", or "dessert" to further refine the wine you are looking for. We recommend leaving this set to "All Types" for more robust wine price listings.
  • Size
Select a size (750 mL, 1.5 L, etc.) to find only bottles in that specific format.
  • My Retailers
Add retailers to your My Retailers (Favorites or Excluded) and use this option to apply them to your Price Searches.

Advanced query types:

  • Omit specific bottlings or appellations

"Robert Mondavi" -woodbridge   Try this search
The quotes require Robert and Mondavi to be next to each other. The '-' character specifies that no results will contain the word "woodbridge".

  • Combined searches

"charles shaw" OR "strawberry hill"   Try this search
The OR (must be in caps) specifies that results containing "charles shaw" or "strawberry hill" will be shown.

  • Abbreviate wine types for convenience

You can use abbreviations for some common words in the search: cab, zin, sauv blanc, and chard are all synonyms for their longer counterparts.

Find Retailers

Find retailers in your area with our robust retailer search, with the option to search by address proximity and/or retailer name. Once you've located a retailer you have the option of limiting your price search to only their inventory of wine. There is also the option to add the retailer to your list of Favorite Retailers or Excluded Retailers. This feature requires you have an account, and gives you the option to apply either list to the Wine Price Search.

  • Search Specific Retailers
Limit your Price Search results to a single retailer or winery.
  • Search My Retailers
Fine tune your Price Search results to only "My Favorite Retailers", or exclude "My Excluded Retailers" from the search results.

Top Ranked Wines

Vinquire monitors incoming user reviews and produces real-time listings of top ranked wines which are higly customizable. As users review wine on Vinquire, our proprietary code calculates a "WineRank" for each wine. The WineRank calculation is based on the average review score, number of reviewers, quality of reviews, among other factors. Vinquire's WineRanks are never adjusted by anything other than your scores and are not artificially influenced to hype any particular wines.

Our Top Ranked tab defaults to a broad listing of wines available at local "Chain Stores Only" (Trader Joe's, Costco, BevMo, etc.). The wines are sorted on WineRank, so the highest ranked wines for your specific criteria are at the top.

Simply adjust the following menus at the top of the Top Ranked page to fine tune (limit) the results to your own personal preference:

  • Price
Limits to wines available under this price.
  • Type
Limits to wines of this type.
  • Varietal
Limits to wines of this varietal.
  • My Retailers
Limits to wines available at your Favorite Retailers, or excludes wines only available at your Excluded Retailers.

With these customizable options you can, for example, find the top ranked red wines, available at Trader Joe's, under $15: Try this search

User Reviews

Vinquire is one of the few communal wine websites that use the 100 point scale for user submitted wine reviews. The scale is similar to a A, B, C grading scale, where 90 pts plus is an A, 80 pts plus a B, and so on. Here's a breakdown of Vinquire's wine rating scale:

100 Point Rating Guide

96-100 Extraordinary A wine of finesse, complexity, and expression. True to variety and region. Perfect balance of flavors with a long finish.
90-95 Excellent True to variety and region, with terrific complexity and balance. While not a wine for the ages, a superior example.
85-89 Good Meets your expectations, with sound flavors and balance. Might have limited complexity or be short on the palate. A sound wine.
80-84 Average Drinkable, might not have as much varietal character. Simple flavors, no flaws, but nothing special.
75-79 Below Average Might contain one flaw, simple straight-forward flavors, off-balance, unpleasant.
60-74 Undrinkable, Flawed Contains significant flaws. Unpleasant, not commercially acceptable.
Need some help?

Submitting a wine review is easy. First, go to the Reviews tab and search for the wine you've recently tasted. Once your selection is found, click on the wine name to go to that wine's detail page. The detail page contains some general statistics on the wine, previous user reviews and forum post activity, and also a link to "Buy This Wine" (which feeds directly into the wine price search for this specific wine).

The "Review This Wine" link will open up the form to submit your review. The only required field is the wine rating (see above), however, the more information you give the more useful your reviews will be to other users. Get creative and let your inner critic out, or just simply list some of the flavors or tastes you experienced in the glass. There's no wrong answer here, just an opportunity to share your opinion with other Vinquire users.

Build My Retailers lists (Favorites and/or Excluded) and apply them to your Price Searches.

Forums

To further enhance the wine community aspect of Vinquire we feature wine forums. There are a number of general forum topics to choose from, including one dedicated to user feedback. Aside from the general topic forums, every single wine in our database has a special forum dedicated to it. To access an individual wine's forum first find that wine via the Review search, then locate the forum activity near the bottom of that wine's detail page.

Feedback

Last but not least, we love user feedback. Vinquire is currently in beta, and as we continue to build in new features and enhancements, we feel direct communication with our users is the best way to help guide these additions. Feel free to drop us a line via our Contact Us form, or if you want others to join the discussion post it to our Vinquire Feedback forum.
